ummm... where's Cloudhopper? I need to write down the trick he told me the other day - you press certain keys and you can see a stumblers new avatar (if they've just changed it).

CH was able to track down a previous thread with similar intentions. *Waves at CH* Here's the link: culture.group.stumbleupon.com/forum/45/ [culture.group.stumbleupon.com/forum/45/]

I will paste the posts here so we can continue the discussion:

GMC What Stumbling tips do you have?

1. After creating a group, rate/comment on it so others will stumble upon it.
2. Rate all the sites you visit daily. This connects you to like-minded stumblers.
3. Suggest great sites you found using google (others may also find them useful)
-----------------------------------------------

Cloudhopper Linking directly to other forum posts

For instance, if you are in a forum and want to post a link directly to a certain post: Right click on the post you want - open it in a new tab or window - and you get a url that looks like this "http://forum.stumbleupon.com/forum/Help/3/10/#17"

Change it so it looks like this: "http://forum.stumbleupon.com/forum/Help/3/10/16/" - note that I have changed the last few charas to point to the *previous* post to the one I want AND I have added a trailing /

It should appear thus: forum.stumbleupon.com/forum/Help/3/10/16 [stumbleupon.com] and create a link directly to the desired post.

Enjoy!

P.S. How did I get some of the urls to post as examples and the others as working links? The examples are simply contained in a pair of quotes " " - the working url is not.

Cloudhopper Photoblogging from a "deep page"?

Some people like to "deep-thumb" pages - some prefer to thumb the main home page. If you want to photoblog from a "deep page" but thumb the main site:

Find you chosen image: do the photoblog thing *but don't save the comment" - CTRL&X the generated photoblog code - page back - navigate to the site Home Page, then thumb and comment - into the comment box CTRL&V the photoblog code. Viola! - you've thumbed the Home Page but blogged an image from inside the site.

-----------------------------------------

Cloudhopper Looked at Firefox yet?

If you haven't already - seriously consider taking a look at this browser. It seems purpose made for stumbling with it's tabbbed display.

have your profile open in one tab, stumble in another, listen to some good sounds in a third. Brilliant. Loads of enthusiasts here if you need help.

-------------------------------------------

Cloudhopper Resizing Images

If you have a great image you want to use for an avvy *and* you don't have the tools or knowledge to resize images, try this:

jpegwizard.com [jpegwizard.com] - an online wizard. Give it your image, tell it what you want done with it and Viola!
--------------------------------------------

DL

Visit peoples "Older Comments," a link found at the bottom of the main page comments, if you like their main page comments. I get frustrated when I blog too many cool sites in a day and they are already scrolled off into older comments!

This FAQ is intended to show people who don't know HTML how to post pictures from the internet as messages to this group.

Step 1
First, find the picture you want to post. The picture will need to be on a web site for this to work - if there's call for it I'll open up a photo storage account somewhere for pics people have on their computers, but for now, the pic will need to already be online somewhere.

Step 2
You'll need to copy and paste this HTML into your message:

< img src="http://www.site.net/pic.jpg">

This HTML is also in the group description so you can find it easily.

Step 3
In your browser, right click on the picture you want to post and select Copy Link Location if you are in Mozilla/Firefox.

If you are using Internet Explorer you will need to right click on the picture and select Properties. On the Properties sheet will be the line Address (URL) - highlight this address and copy it.

Step 4
Paste the address of the picture over the fake address in the line of HTML from Step 2.

The fake line looks like this:

< img src="http://www.site.net/pic.jpg">

You want to paste the address of the picture over the site.net.pic.jpg [pic.jpg], leaving the " marks in place.

Step 5
Post the message. If the HTML is right, the pic should now appear in your message. The pic will continue to display as long as the original file continues to exist at the location you have specified.

Step 6 (OPTIONAL) Usually you won't need this Step
If you want to control the size at which the picture displays - to stop it from appearing very large for instance - add height=100 and width=100 after the name of the image, seperate by spaces, inside the angle brackets, where 100 is the height or width in pixels that you want. For instance:

< img src="http://www.site.net/pic.jpg" height=100 width=100>

Generally you want to keep the dimensions you specify in proportion with the dimensions of the original picture, otherwise the picture will come out stretched into a strange shape. To check the original dimensions, right click on the picture in your browser and select Properties - a good idea is simply to half the dimensions of a large photo.

Ethically, it's best either to host your own copy of an image or to link to the page containing the hotlinked image. Here's a simple trick to do the latter:
- On the image you wish to post, right-click (or Control-click on one-button Macintosh computers).
- Select either the IE "StumbleUpon: Blog This" or the Mozilla/Firefox "StumbleUpon Photoblog It!" context menu item.
- Copy the HTML supplied in the comment dialog.
- Paste that HTML into a post w/ commentary.

That quickly creates a size-limited image w/ a link to the containing page.

Chimichurri, if you just hit F5 it should reload the page for you. Some use alt + F5 as well.
